Who we are
Masta Sports (“Masta”, “we”, “us”) runs the Masta Sports website at mastasports.com and the Masta Sports app at app.mastasports.com. We are a company based in Lagos, Nigeria, and we decide how and why the personal information described here is used (the “controller”).
Registered office: 81 Forsythe Street, Lagos Island, Lagos State, Nigeria. Questions about your information: support@mastasports.com.
What this policy covers
This policy explains what information we collect when you visit our website or use our app, what we do with it, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and the choices you have. We follow the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 and, where it applies to you, the EU and UK GDPR.
Information we collect
- Your account: your full name, username, email address and password. Your password is never stored in a readable form. You can add a phone number if you want to.
- Your age: how old you are, which we ask when you first sign in, to check you are old enough to use Masta. It is not shown to anyone else, unless you choose to show your age on your profile.
- Your profile: a photo, the positions you play, and, only if you choose to add them, your height and weight. Each of these has its own switch for whether others can see it.
- Your teams: the groups you create or join, your role in them (organiser, player, or both), and requests to join.
- Your activity: fixtures you are picked for, RSVPs, match results and statistics, ratings, cards, Stars you give or receive, awards and medals.
- Payments: what you owe and have paid (dues, fines and match fees), the amounts, dates and payment references. Your card or bank details are entered on the payment provider’s page and are never seen or stored by us.
- Technical information: your device and browser type, approximate location from your IP address, pages and features you use, and error reports.
- Messages you send us, for example by email or WhatsApp.
Why we use it
- To run your account and the app: sign you in, show your teams, fixtures, stats and payments, and let organisers manage their groups. (This is needed to provide the service you asked for.)
- To take and record payments, and to keep the records organisers and players need to see who has paid. (Needed to provide the service, and to meet our legal duties.)
- To keep the app safe and working: prevent fraud and abuse, fix errors and keep records of what happened. (Our legitimate interest in running a secure service.)
- To understand how the app is used and to improve it, including analytics, statistics and developing new features. (Our legitimate interest in making a better product. You can switch usage analytics off at any time in Settings.)
- To reply to you and send service messages, such as a sign-in code or a payment receipt.
- To meet our legal obligations, such as tax and accounting records.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it to show you adverts. We may use summaries that cannot be traced back to you, such as totals and averages, to understand and improve the service.
Who can see your information
- People in your teams. Organisers of a group you belong to can see your name, photo, squad details, attendance, stats and what you owe or have paid to that group. Other members can see what the team page and leaderboards show, such as your name, card and stats.
- Anyone you share with. A player card link, an invite link or a payment receipt link can be opened by anyone who has the link. Only share them with people you trust. A receipt shows your name, the team, what you paid for, the amount and the date, and nothing else.
- Search. A team can be set to appear in search so people can ask to join. Your own profile is not listed in public search.
- Rankings. If we publish rankings, you appear only if you have chosen to. Players under 18 appear by initials.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your information. We share it only with:
- Our payment provider (Paystack), which takes card, bank transfer and USSD payments and pays organisers their share.
- Service providers that help us run Masta: companies that host the app and website, store our database, sign you in, send email and help us measure how the product is used. They handle information only on our instructions and under their own data protection terms.
- Authorities, advisers or others where the law requires it, or to protect our users or our rights.
- A buyer or partner, if the business is sold or merged (in which case this policy continues to apply).
Sending information abroad
Some of our service providers run their systems outside Nigeria. When your information leaves Nigeria, we make sure it is protected by an adequate level of protection, standard contract terms or another safeguard the law allows.
How long we keep it
- Account and profile: until you delete your account.
- Payment records: for as long as the law requires us to keep accounting records, even after an account is deleted.
- Match history and ratings: kept with the group they belong to, so the group’s records stay accurate. When you delete your account, they are no longer linked to your name.
- Technical logs: for a short period, normally no more than a few months.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the information we hold about you;
- have wrong information corrected;
- have your information deleted, and delete your account from Settings in the app;
- restrict or object to some uses of your information;
- receive your information in a common format (portability);
- withdraw consent at any time, without affecting what was done before;
- complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (ndpc.gov.ng), or to your own data protection authority if you live outside Nigeria.
To use any of these, email support@mastasports.com. We will reply within 30 days.
Age limit
Masta is for people aged 16 and over. The app asks how old you are when you first sign in and does not let anyone under 16 in. If you are 16 or 17, you may use Masta only with the permission of a parent or guardian, and the app asks you to confirm that you have it. If we find that someone under 16 has an account, we will close it and delete their information. A parent or guardian can ask us to see or delete a young person’s information at any time. Players under 18 appear in public rankings by initials only.
Keeping your information safe
Information is sent over encrypted connections and stored with access rules that limit who can read or change it. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong password and keep it to yourself. If a breach puts your rights at risk, we will tell you and the Nigeria Data Protection Commission within the time the law requires.
Cookies and similar technology
The app uses cookies and similar storage to keep you signed in and remember your choices (such as your team and light or dark setting). It also uses them for usage analytics, which you can switch off in Settings. The website does not set cookies of its own. More detail is in our Cookie Policy at mastasports.com/cookies.
Changes to this policy
We will update this page when what we do changes. If the change matters to you, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.
